Kitchen Remodel
Leola, PA
By removing a restrictive horseshoe-shaped counter and an awkwardly placed closet, we transformed this Lancaster kitchen from a cramped “dead end” into a seamless, open-concept hub. The addition of a large island and custom Omega walnut cabinetry proves that strategic layout changes don’t just add space—they completely change how you move through your home.
Layout is often the “invisible” wall in a home. At this Cadwell Lane residence in Lancaster, a dated horseshoe-shaped countertop didn’t just take up space—it acted as a physical barrier between the kitchen and the living room.
By rethinking the footprint and removing an misplaced coat closet, we were able to dissolve those boundaries, creating a high-traffic, user-friendly hub designed for both daily life and large-scale entertaining.
An open-concept kitchen conversion in Lancaster, PA, featuring a massive seating island, custom Omega walnut cabinetry, and a smart closet-to-pantry structural redesign.
Reimagining the Kitchen
Breaking Boundaries on Cadwell Lane
Before our team arrived, the kitchen felt isolated from the rest of the home and dated in it’s look. A tall, horseshoe-shaped counter forced the homeowner to walk a long path just to enter the kitchen, while visually making the entire room feel cramped. With seating for only three and no dedicated food storage, the space lacked the “flow” and storage a modern home requires. An awkwardly placed coat closet in the middle of the kitchen further disrupted the utility of the room.
The Solution: Open Flow & Dual-Purpose Storage
Our 20+ years of design expertise led us to a bold structural shift:
-
The Great Opening: We eliminated the restrictive horseshoe counter and the misplaced coat closet.
-
The “Super Island”: In its place, we installed an expansive island. This shift created a direct path from the living room, added massive workspace for entertaining, and increased the seating capacity from three to five.
-
Smart Storage: After removing the closet, we integrated two tall, matching Omega cabinets. One was designed to replace the lost coat closet, while the other provided a much-needed dedicated pantry.
The Material Palette: Warm Walnut & Bold Contrast
The aesthetic of this kitchen is all about texture and sophisticated contrast:
-
Cabinetry: We used Omega cabinetry with soft-close technology. The perimeter features Walnut in a warm Butternut stain with a clean Renner door profile.
-
The Island: To create a focal point, the island was crafted in Oak with a Black Opaque finish, specifically chosen to highlight the natural beauty of the wood grain.
-
Surfaces: Both finishes are tied together by Cambria Quartz countertops in Clovelly. The heavy movement in the Clovelly pattern adds a layer of artistic interest to the clean lines of the room.
-
The Details: The kitchen was finished with a premium Blanco sink, Moen fixtures, and designer hardware from Top Knobs.
The Result: A Room with a Natural Flow and Beautiful Aesthetic
By removing physical and visual barriers, the Cadwell Lane kitchen now feels like a natural extension of the living space. The homeowner no longer has to “walk around” the kitchen to use it—now, the kitchen is the heart of the home.
“I absolutely love my new kitchen design! It feels so modern and fresh and is such an easy flow! We couldn’t recommend Nauman Kitchen & Bath more. They were so wonderful to work with and collected all of their materials before starting the work so it was a fairly quick completion.”
